Pixel Chix

The Pixel Chix from Mattel are described as "A 2D girl living in a 3D world". What this means is that a two dimensional LCD display is superimposed on top of an actual 3D model of a house complete with accessories. It's a rather cool idea to bridge the gap between physical and virtual toys.

Pixel House - Cottage
Children can interact with their virtual friend by way of a number of buttons. These can instruct the virtual girl (presumably a "Chic"?) to eat, sleep etc. There are also "Yes" and "No" buttons which can be used to answer questions.

Games

Pixel Chix like to play. As with many virtual friends they require attention and become stroppy if ignored. Ultimately they might even walk out on you. Playing with your virtual buddy long enough opens up an increasing number of items and also various mini-games such as Magic 8-ball and Guitar.

Two or three Pixel Chix games can be connected together, allowing the virtual girls to visit or chat with each other.

You can buy the Pixel Chix in a number of different houses including a cottage, a Beverly Hills house and a larger two storey house which has an upstairs bedroom. There are also a number of other Pixel Chix items and accessories available to buy including a shop mall set and a pet hamster game.

Roomies

Pixel Chix Roomies goes one step further than just having the girls visit each other - it makes them live together in the same house! Roomies comes with Pixel and Sporty, you can also buy four additional Roomies Add-On Friends.
